Sprout checks the order and direction of the strokes, not just the shape — that is the whole point of it. Tap Show me to replay the demonstration: the numbered dot is where the stroke starts and the little arrow is the way it goes. If the tracing feels too strict for a young child, open the grown-ups' screen and set Writing help to Guided, which puts the whole letterform under their finger.
Yes. Behind the parental gate, Writing help has three levels: Guided (a solid letter to trace over), Dotted (a dotted outline) and Free (just the ruled lines, written from memory). Start guided and move up when it stops being a challenge.
Turn on Left-handed in the grown-ups' screen. The on-screen hand mirrors so it stops covering the letter being written.
Twenty-one, and each is a real alphabet rather than a translated one: Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Malay, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish. The letters, the example words behind them and the recorded voice all change together. Sprout follows your device's language; if your device is set to a language Sprout does not teach yet, it falls back to English.
Three languages ship inside the app and the rest download a small set of recordings the first time that language is used. Until that download finishes — or if the device is offline — your device's built-in voice reads the words instead. Connect to Wi-Fi and reopen the app to get the recorded voice.
Once every letter has been written at least once — all the capitals and all the lowercase letters. Numbers are not required. The Words section on the home screen shows exactly how many letters are left.
All of it — every capital and lowercase letter, the numbers, the words, all 21 alphabets and their recorded voices, with no adverts and nothing extra to buy. Two plans are offered, monthly and yearly, and they give exactly the same access. The introduction is free to go through, including the first letter your child writes at the end of it.
On your device, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions, choose Sprout and change or cancel it there. Cancelling keeps access until the end of the period you have already paid for. We cannot cancel or refund a subscription on your behalf — Apple handles all billing. For refunds, use reportaproblem.apple.com.
Open the subscription screen and tap Restore. As long as you are signed in with the same Apple Account that made the purchase, access comes straight back.
Behind the parental gate there is a Reset control. It erases every star and every plant, and cannot be undone. Deleting the app does the same thing.
Yes. Everything except the first download of a language's voice pack works with no connection at all.
There is none to keep safe. Sprout has no account, no advertising and no analytics, and nothing your child does leaves the device. The privacy policy spells this out in full.
